Pretty Wedding Garters

Pretty Wedding Garters

via

You know how there are some things that the Brits just do better? Tea, wool sweaters, dramatic television, cottage decor, our friends in the UK are some talented people. And now you can add wedding garters to that list. Sweet and stylish, these pretty wedding garters are a far cry from the overloaded monstrosities I've been seeing lately. Seriously, when did garters start to look like flowered, rustic, tourniquets? How do you fit all of that under your wedding dress (in fact, just this last week I found a garter with a flask attached to it)? These exquisite satin and lace garters are delicate, feminine, and (best of all) easy to wear with any gown.

For those of you who wouldn't mind an extra bit of luck on your wedding day, look to two traditions. First, the British believe in wearing a sixpence down the aisle. Most commonly the coin goes in your shoe (it comes from the end of, "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, a sixpence in your shoe"), but I have also seen them on bouquets and garters.

If you just want something blue, a garter is excellent for a discreet hiding place. The next few garters all incorporate some of the wedding luck hue in their designs.

Love a bow? These next garters include the lovely little detail. Above, this striped bow is perfect for a preppy wedding. Below, why just add a bow to your garter when it can be a bow instead?

This traditional cream lace wedding garter with a dainty bow is old-fashioned in the best way (and with just enough sparkle from the iridescent sequin beading to exude a little bit of glam). The long ribbons from the garter below feel equally ladylike, and probably best worn with a longer dress!

But maybe nostalgia isn't for you. Perhaps you like things with a slightly more modern edge. This gray pleated garter above is one such example of a more sleek, fashion-forward design. Below, the pattern of this silver sequined garter keeps the overall look clean and dynamic, rather than gaudy.

Modern wedding garters are also a little different in scale. Note these two garters and their thinner, more demure width. The velvet and pearl garter below is minimal and unique. Perfect for the bride looking for a keepsake from her wedding day!
