If you’re wondering why I haven’t posted any photos from our insanely expensive (but certainly beautiful) over-the-water resort bungalow yet, that would be because we didn’t stay in one. I always thought that the Maldives was an ‘off the cards’ destination for us (our travel budget does need to stretch for 9 months after all) and I honestly didn’t know that there were other, more affordable accomodation options to choose from. We ended up splitting our time between two quiet inhabited islands, staying in local hotels and experiencing the gorgeous beaches and wildlife but without burning a hole in our wallets. Bonus! This shot was taken on the island of Thindhaoo - it made me feel a little bit like I could have been a contestant on “Survivor”... but with hot showers and a cocktail menu
