Nate proposed to Kayla one evening upon arriving home from work. "I walked into our home after work and Nate had strung up bistro lights on a large chalkboard wall that read 'Meet me at the Château Laurier,'" Kayla shares. "When I got to the hotel room and opened the door, Nate was down on one knee. He said, 'I'm so nervous' then asked me to be his wife!"

Going into the wedding, Nate and Kayla wanted the night to be a laid-back and minimalist affair. They chose a lush palette of blush and navy, and decorated with lots of greenery to create a airy, ethereal vibe.

Nate and Kayla also added a personal touch to their favours. The couple went to a lumber mill in Nate's hometown, picked their own trees, then cut them into cheeseboards to gift to guests. "As we continue to build our life in Ottawa, it was so nice to bring in that piece of Nate's home and give it to our guests," Kayla explains.

One of Kayla's favourite moments from the day was the first look. "We chose to do a first look because we were both so nervous and we had to get the jitters out," Kayla says. "Walking up to Nate, as he stood with his back to me was one of the most exciting and nerve-racking experiences, but the payoff of sharing the moment was worth it. Not to mention Nate brought our pug Stevie, so it really felt like a special family moment."
