While I love shoes as much as the next person (seriously, my closet is overflowing with them at this point), it's bags that I love most when it comes to accessories. There's nothing I enjoy more than turning to the runway or the street-style set to identify the cool handbag trends we'll soon be seeing everywhere (ring bags à la Chloé, anyone?). But to be honest, I often spot some of the chicest new silhouettes on the red carpet. And while you'd think most of these styles would be too fancy for your everyday life, I'm here to tell you that some top finds can seamlessly fit into your closet and work for both formal and casual occasions.

Ahead, you'll find five handbag trends that stun on the red carpet and have the potential to be stunning on you as well. I promise there's something for everyone here. Because when it comes to completing your perfect outfit, it's in the (red carpet) bag.

While we're used to seeing classic black chain bags at events, I've been seeing more and more quirky, colorful styles this season on the runway and on the red carpet. I love how this green and blue bag adds a cool pop of color to Olivia Palermo's neutral ensemble.

You can't deny the power of the perfect clutch for formal events, right? While there's nothing wrong with sticking to the basics, I love the idea of having fun this season and opting for an eye-catching metallic iteration in silver, gold or rose gold (like Alessandra Ambrosio's pick here). The beauty of a metallic clutch is that it will quite literally go with anything in your closet.

If you're on the hunt for a go-to bag to round out your collection this season, the envelope clutch tops the most-wanted list. Its structured corners and geometric folds add instant cool factor to any outfit. Naomie Harris takes it one step further by wearing it with a striped jumpsuit.

This trend may feel totally untraditional (which is probably why I love it), but we're seeing a resurgence of more everyday-inspired top-handle bags on the red carpet. Case in point: the mini tote Alexa Chung showcased recently.

Pink bags are on the rise this season. They're everywhere when it comes to street style, but the moment it hits the red carpet? You know it's official. It may feel bold at first, but a pink bag is actually able to brighten up a daytime look and make an evening look feel more glamorous. Ruth Negga knows what I mean.
