Jess and Adam's wedding at Summerour Studio

Jess and Adam's wedding at Summerour Studio

Self-proclaimed goofballs, Jess and Adam, wanted their big day to be as light-hearted as possible. Planner, and Grey Collective member, Molly McKinley Designs, made it happen with a balloon hat artist, a waffle bar, and instant film cameras, but she also created an incredibly gorgeous day to boot. Summerour Studio in Atlanta offered a textured, warm vibe and the details are all fresh and modern right down to the incredibly gorgeous (and fun!) bouquets by Tulip. Black, white and gold details keep the looks grounded while organic greens and muted, lavender-hued florals add tons of interest. We know you're going to love the images captured by the always-wonderful Julie Cate Photography.

What made the wedding special and unique?

There was relentless downpour and flooding on the day of our wedding. This was a bummer, but it led to three wonderful moments. First, the clouds parted just long enough for us to have our somewhat sunny first look on the terrace. Second, there was a double rainbow over the Atlanta skyline, which felt particularly significant to me as I associate rainbows with my late grandparents. And third, we'd chosen a verse from Song of Solomon that featured the line "many waters cannot quench love" to be read during our ceremony. It seemed to rain even harder during this reading, and somehow it just felt like a good omen. If rain on your wedding day is good luck, we must be the luckiest!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

My gown is by Daalarna, and I found it at Serendipity Bridal in Austin. I loved this gown from the moment I tried it on, but it was more fitted and revealing than anything I'd ever envisioned, so I second-guessed myself. I ended up buying another dress, but a few months before my wedding I woke up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night and realized I'd picked wrong. I called Serendipity that morning, and they rushed with Daalarna to get the dress ready in time. My heroes! To me this dress felt fun and special without being too fussy or ornate.

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

We rock-paper-scissors for all of our minor decisions (who takes the dog out, what to eat for dinner, etc.) so it only seemed natural to incorporate the game into our vows. In general, I wanted the whole day to feel as lighthearted as possible-because Adam and I are true goofballs. For our reception, we threw in a balloon hat artist, a waffle bar, and instant film cameras. We also paid tribute to the story of how we met by referencing our camp nicknames, Steak (his) and Honey (mine) everywhere from our invitation card to our hashtag to our signature drinks. If you look carefully, you'll even see honeycomb patterns on our table linens and escort cards!

What was the most memorable part of the day?

Instead of renting a car or hiring a driver, we left the wedding in my parents' black Cadillac-with my dad driving and my mom riding shotgun! After a whirlwind day, it was wonderful to spend a few tender moments with them at the end of the evening.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Adam and I met while traveling for a conference for our favorite nonprofit, Camp Kesem. We kept in touch from 1,000 miles apart, then serendipitously reconnected when I visited Missouri for a football game. He was so smitten with me that he drove down to Georgia to see me (and meet my entire family!) less than 10 days later. It's crazy, but we've been together ever since!
