Nordstrom Welcomes Hermès, Now Open in Seattle

"Surrounded by silk spaghetti strands and pinching myself [that] this dream project came to life," wrote Olivia Kim via Instagram early on Tuesday morning. The image she was captioning showed her standing in the newest must-snap selfie spot-smack dab in the middle of one of the brand new, ultra-modern and very cool design elements in Nordstrom Welcomes Hermès, a temporary shop-in-shop experience that she curated only for our Downtown Seattle flagship.

And really, we do mean "only." Olivia's Hermès edit is just in Seattle and not available online, and our collaboration marks the first time the nearly two hundred-year-old brand has co-created a dedicated home for exploring the colorful and expertly crafted extras that make it such a covetable name.

As you might imagine, that one-of-its-kind emphasis on men's and women's scarves, ties, and jewelry means there's a beautiful and immersive selection of it all; there's also an entire year to take it all in.

A longtime fan of Hermès's style and tradition, Olivia has been pursuing the global icons since 2013 when she first launched her Pop-In series. She wanted to include them in French Fling, the very first of her concept shops, but the time wasn't right. Just goes to show you what a little stick-to-it-ness can do.

"At heart, Hermès is playful, progressive and contemporary-we welcome this opportunity to surprise and delight with a new expression of our personality," said Robert B. Chavez, the brand's USA president and CEO.

As we walked around the colorful and spirited Robert Storey -designed space ("It's like a playground," Olivia told WWD in a feature that coincided with opening day), I was reminded just what a big-time nature and history lover Olivia is. I asked her to show me her favorite scarf prints, and she brought me to beautifully realistic cashmere example, and then a bright and wonderfully cartoon-y one. Another of her favorites is based on the original floor plan of Versailles.

Even Olivia's pick in the jewelry category has a zoological angle; those ultra-cool studded leather cuffs you've seen on various cool girls and fashion industry types? Hermès calls them colliers de chien; french for "dog collars."

But really, there are all kinds of things to love in our downtown Seattle Hermès shop-as shoppers, bloggers and the press discovered as soon as we opened our doors. We can't wait for you to come and check it out, too.
