DIY: FRESH FLORAL HAIR COMB - BLOVED Blog

via

I loved creating this pretty floral hair slide for my blogging friend Elizabeth over at Bridal Musings (and doesn't she just make the perfect model?!). A more understated alternative to the ever-popular floral crown, this version sees flowers attached to a hair comb so it works in both up and down hair styles - and is a little less bridal so you could totally rock this at your next party or event!

YOU WILL NEED:

  • A selection of fresh flowers
  • Hair comb (find packs at Hobbycraft)
  • Sharp scissors
  • Glue gun

METHOD:

Start by choosing your flowers. We used roses and sweetpeas as they smell delicious! It's important to consider how long your flowers will last, so choose something a little hardier if you plan to wear your comb all day. Your florist will be able to advise.

Prepare your flowers. For larger blooms cut off most of the stem, for smaller trailing varieties leave the stems longer so they can be placed along the length of the comb.

Carefully glue your chosen flowers using a hot glue gun taking care not to catch the petals with the heat as they'll wilt! Start with the smaller trailing pieces, and then layer the larger roses until you're happy with the overall composition. We went slightly assymetrical with our version to allow it to be work on the side of the head.

Press and hold each flower until the glue has cooled and hardened - it may take a minute or longer. If you find it's still not secure then add a bit more glue until you're happy but be careful not to overdo it as you'll end up with a hot mess!

Leave your comb aside for 10-20 minutes until the glue has fully set, and then it's ready to wear! You'll get lots of admiring glances wearing this piece of pretty!

For a super-long lasting, or re-wearable version, consider using some gorgeous silk flowers as an alternative!
